JOIN USAround 45 passengers, clutching their luggage and tickets, were in for a rude shock when the Ajmer-Ernakuluam Marusagar Express train sped away without stopping to pick them at Byndoor Railway Station on Saturday evening.
RPF (Railway Protection Force) Sub Inspector Santhosh Gaonkar told DH that Byndoor was not a scheduled stop and the loco pilot had to control the speed in order to bring the train to a halt in order to pick the passengers, who had reserved their tickets via Byndoor Railway Station.
On Saturday, the train was hurtling in such a speed that the driver failed to slow down the train at the particular station. Thus the train sped through the platform without picking the passengers. But the loco pilot succeeded in stopping the train a little further away from the platform.
Railway officials, however, decided not to force the train to take a reverse in order to pick up the passengers stranded at the railway station. “It would create a lot of chaos,” sources said and added that the train was made to stop at the next Udupi railway station.
The passengers were taken to Udupi railway station in a train bound to Bengaluru. The passengers alighted and boarded the Marusagar train which was waiting for them at Udupi. The passengers then continued their onward journey.
