‘Trial water supply to Kalyananagara from Jan’

City Municipal Council Vice President Sudheer said about 30% of the work on laying pipelines under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme, to supply uninterrupted water to Chikkamagaluru, has been completed.

"By January, water will be supplied to Kalyananagara and housing board layout on a trial basis."

Speaking to reporters here, on Friday, he said Chikkamagaluru city requires 32 million litres per day (MLD) water. At present, 14 MLD water is supplied. About 12.5 lakh-litre capacity tank has been constructed near the district prison and another 6 lakh-litre capacity overhead tank has been constructed near Asha Kirana school. The water purification unit at Ramanahalli will be modernised. With this, there will be no shortage of water to supply to all the layouts under the CMC jurisdiction.

He also said that the 12 km-long concrete pipes from Yagachi Dam to Muguluvalli pumphouse was being removed to lay milestone pipes. "Already, 9-km work has been completed. The CMC Congress members are levelling baseless allegations on works being initiated under the Amrut scheme."

He further said no parks in the CMC jurisdiction had been encroached in the last 10 years.

"Fearing the defeat in the upcoming CMC election, Congress and JD(S) leaders are entering into an alliance. The BJP is ready to face the election and will win with more number of seats," he predicted.

CMC president Shilpa Rajashekar said various works were being taken up at a cost of Rs 30 crore under the third phase of Nagarothana. As much as Rs 1 crore is released for the development of Mahatma Gandhi Park. The work on the construction of houses for 74 civic workers is also in progress, she added.
