Tumakuru's son awarded Sena Medal

Tumakuru's brave son Naik M Sadiq who is fighting against extremists and has displayed extraordinary courage in battle has been conferred the prestigious Sena Medal by the Indian Army. An announcement to this effect was made on Friday.  

Sadiq will be presented the medal in the Indian Army encampment in Kashmir on Saturday. He is currently posted in the Valley.   

Naik M Sadiq enrolled for service in the Indian Army on July 21, 2004. He served for eight years in Jammu & Kashmir fighting insurgents. He also served in South Africa for one year as part of the International Peacekeeping Force. He served as a part of the National Security Group (NSG) for two years.  

"The Sena Medal is a rare honour for Army personnel. This honour conferred on me has brought pride and happiness to my family and well-wishers back home in Tumakuru. I never expected any medals or awards in my service. I fight for my country; that is all. I am happy to receive this honour," Sadiq said. 

Sadiq added that the medal had brought honour to his district and its people. "I had a burning desire to join the Army. I am willing to fight extremists even under difficult circumstances," he added.
