The Assam Police constable who sustained injuries during the border clash with Mizoram on July 26 recalled the sequence of events. NK Nath said, “We'd gone there for a meeting but didn't expect them to fire. Mizoram Police were already in firing positions when we reached. They fired first, had a location advantage. The firing lasted 45 min.”

On Monday, the border dispute between Assam and Mizoram peaked and a fierce gun battle between the forces of the two states resulted in the death of six Assam police personnel and one civilian. At least 50 were injured in the incident.

A total of six companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed at the site where the policemen died.
