Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi alleges that BJP councillors attacked her, files complaint

Last Updated 25 February 2023, 05:03 IST

MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi filed a complaint and demanded strict action against BJP councillors especially Arjun Marwah, Chandan Choudhary and Ravi Negi after she was allegedly attacked by BJP councillors in the Delhi civic centre on February 24.

Speaking to ANI, Shelly Oberoi said “Whatever demands BJP made before the election of the Standing committee, we agreed on those. We started the election on their conditions and the election was completed, but as soon as the counting started and when they realised they were losing, they started sloganeering.

And just as I was about to announce the results, a group of BJP councillors, especially Arjun Marwah, Chandan Choudhary, Ravi Negi and others came to the stage. Chandan Choudhary pulled my chair and I ran away from there to save my life".

“They hit me and I fell and civil defence women saved my life. Today is a very unfortunate day. If a woman mayor is not safe, then can the women of the country be safe?

I appeal to BJP to accept the defeat. I came here to file the report and I request the SHO to take action against BJP councillors, especially the three I mentioned and provide police protection for me because I don’t feel safe anymore,” she added.
