Road widening work is in full swing in Madikeri.

The project is aimed at facilitating better movement of vehicles within the town.

The narrow stretch between Raja Seat and the new private bus shelter is often marred by traffic congestion.

Moreover, the private bus operators have refused to go
to the new bus stand, complaining that there are no proper facilities. The new bus stand was inaugurated one year back.

Bus passengers rely upon autorickshaws to reach the bus shelter as the new bus stand is quite far from the heart of the city.

City Municipal Council Commissioner Ramesh said that the CMC is planning to operate minibuses from the new bus stand to Madikeri city and the way back, so that the people do not face problems in going to the post office, Zilla Panchayat and other offices located in Madikeri city.

As per plans by the CMC, the stretch will be widened on both sides. The work has already started.

Tourists bound for resorts on Galibeedu Road and working people have been facing inconvenience due to the road works.

Private Bus Operators Association president Ramesh Joyappa has urged the CMC to complete the road widening work soon.
