Disruptions at Jeff Bezos' grand wedding? Venice clarifies

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez are all set to get married this year in Italy’s Venice, media reports said.

The wedding celebrations will be held from June 24 to 26 in Bezos’ $500-million superyacht, Koru, that is going to be anchored in the Venice lagoon, a CNN report mentioned.

The wedding is said to take place on June 26 and will be attended by top Hollywood celebrities and politicians.

As per Venice's rules and regulations, ships that are big in size are not allowed too close to historical places like the the St. Mark’s square and the Grand Canal. These regulations fanned speculation that Bezos might face some disruptions hosting the ceremony in Venice.

But Venice authorities on Saturday issued a statement rejecting the "fake news" surrounding the affair, denying suggestions that Bezos would effectively buy up parts of the UNESCO world heritage site for the duration, news agency AFP reported.

"The many speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos' wedding are completely unfounded," the municipality said.

"Only 200 guests will have been invited and therefore it will be easy for Venice to accommodate such an event, without any disruption whatsoever to the city, its residents and visitors."

Jeff Bezo’s yacht weighs 3,493 gross tons, which is much less than the set limit of 25,000 for ships to enter Venice’s lagoon, however it is too large to enter the Grand Canal.

As per the report, the couple has fully reserved five luxury hotels along the Grand Canal for the last weekend of June. The hotels that have been reportedly booked are the Gritti Palace, the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, the St. Regis Venice, the Hotel Danieli and the Grand Aman Hotel, where American actor George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin celebrated their wedding in 2014.

As per the Venice water taxi cooperative an exclusive fleet of water taxis which includes the renowned "Amore" that was used by Clooney and Alamuddin to leave the wedding venue, have been booked by Bezos and Sanchez, the report added.

Bezos was previously married to MacKenzie Scott in 1993 and got divorced in 2019 and has four kids together.
