7 firms in race for Mumbai metro tender

Seven Indian and international firms are in the race for supplying 378 coaches for the upcoming Metro 2A and Metro 7 corridors in Mumbai.

The tenders for the coaches were opened recently by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and the successful bidder will soon be named by the evaluation committee.

The seven firms that have submitted bid documents are, Messrs Hyundai Rotem, Korea; Messrs Bombardier India & Bombardier Germany; Messrs CRRC Corporation Ltd; Messrs Bharat Earth Movers Ltd; Messrs Titagarh wagons & Titagarh Firema; Messrs Alstom Transport India & Alstom SA and Messrs CAF India and CAF, Spain.

“The entire bidding process has been carried out adhering to the norms set by the Asian Development Bank who are funding the projects," said R A Rajeev, metropolitan commissioner.

The successful bidder is expected to provide state-of-the-art 63 sets of trains of 6 cars, each equipped with faster acceleration/deceleration.

The coaches will also have features to enable comfortable travel by differently-abled/senior citizens as well as women passengers.

Further, the coaches will be air-conditioned, energy friendly with a regenerative braking system, equipped with CCTV security surveillance and real-time track monitoring facility to ensure safety.

The trains will work on the latest CBTC signalling technology system and metro platforms will have platform screen door for the safety of passengers.
