Justice Loya case: Govt to pay Rs 1.21 cr to prosecutor

For representing the state in the Supreme Court against the petitions demanding an enquiry into the death of Special CBI Judge B.H. Loya, the Maharashtra government will pay Rs 1.21 crore to former Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi as his professional fees, reveals an RTI query.

The state government had appointed Rohtagi as a special prosecutor in the case.

In April, a bench presided over by Justice Dipak Misra, the Chief Justice of India dismissed petitions demanding an enquiry into the death of Justice Loya.

Rohtagi appeared 11 times before the Supreme Court in the matter. The state government will pay Rs 11 lakh per hearing as his professional fees. Maharashtra government had also appointed former Solicitor General Harish Salve as its counsel.

Justice B.H. Loya was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, when he died in Nagpur on December 1, 2014, where he had gone to attend a wedding.
