Appreciating the timely efforts of the Dakshina Kannada district administration and the Police Department in handling the recent flood situation in Jodupala, Madenadu and other neighbouring areas in Kodagu district recently, Karnataka Additional Director General of Police Kamal Pant said that the selfless services by the police personnel have been rewarded.

The state ADGP was in the city to take part in the first meeting on shore security, hosted by MRPL-ONGC.

Interacting with reporters at Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate office on Thursday, Kamal Pant said that DK district administration and the district police departments have transcended their boundaries to reach out to those who are in distress, following massive landslides and heavy floods in Jodupala and nearby areas.

Police officials from DK district, Ganesh Gowda and Manjunath have swung into action in rescuing the marooned people in the areas of the landslide.

“During the massive landslides and flash-floods, Kodagu police could not rush to the spot as the Madikeri-Makkandur route was blocked. The DK police personnel reached out to the needy via the Dakshina Kannada route to carry out rescue works and even took part in the operations recovering bodies. The timely service by the police personnel during the natural calamity has been recognized by the Director General of Police and the government.”

Responding to a query, the ADGP said that necessary steps will be initiated to recruit police personnel in the district, to fill up the vacant positions. He said that the issue has been brought to the notice of the home minister who has promised to do the needful.

To another question, he said that the state government has considered the drug menace in the district seriously and the Police Department will take necessary measures to curb the drug mafia.

He further stated that he has held a discussion with the City Police Commissioner on the law and order situation, which is good.

Commissioner of Police T R Suresh and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth were present.
