Three down-on-luck men embark upon a bank heist to clear all their troubles. But they get caught. Scores of films with this theme have come and conquered the box office or wilted away. ‘Kaanchaana’ belongs to the latter category.

Right from scene one, the film tests audience intellect like no other. The pity is, there is nothing substantial to offer as reward to those who are game enough to overlook the absence of a plot, pedestrian cinematography, clueless direction and music that drowns out the voices. None of the tracks make sense - be it the romance between Digant and Ragini, the rows between Nani and his wife or even the one involving Kiran, Mitra and the trio. Amateur plays are way above in conceptualisation.

The director gives free rein to the mind before realising that he has a film to complete at the fag end of second half and crams in scene upon scene. Television channels, their programmes and TRPs are all spoofed but the act goes beyond harmless teasing. Even Digant’s various hairdos do not offer any relief.

Two good-looking people are thrown together but there is zero chemistry. It is left to Nani and Satish to lift the film, which they do within the limits set by their roles. ‘Kaanchaana’ stays true to its capricious nature - a club number picturised on Rangayana Raghu giving ample proof. Some homework and a calmer mind at the helm would have helped the film some.
