An ensemble of 108 artists, several ‘special appearances’ by the leading lights of the industry and a “jhakaas” fight sequence featuring two sleek fighters... “Aithalakkadi” is packed with masala. That it has a story connected with the industry is a bonus. Bullet Prakash and Rangayana Raghu, actors undermined of their real worth by their ability to make people laugh, pair up in this journey of discovering the true meaning of life.

Raghu, even with his stock mannerisms, is the pick of the lot as the assistant director who finally makes it big, but not before paying a heavy price for it.

A story told in a no-frills manner, “Aithalakkadi” however slips up in trying to give equal footage (or homage) to the stars, prolonging the length unnecessarily. The same time could have been spent better on developing the track involving Prakash. Indeed, the climax looks a little out of place with hurried placements etc. Still, the film appeals on a basic level with each actor pitching in realistic performances. Sadhu Kokila’s comedy track is an example of how jaded humour can also evoke at least a tired giggle. Choreography and action sequences are “mast-mast”.

“Aithalakkadi” gives a huge push up the ladder. It remains to be seen whether the film can sustain it in the coming weeks.
