Anganwadi and Asha workers will take out a state-level rally under the aegis of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha on November 10, urging the government to fulfil and implement their demands, Association State General Secretary Lokesh said on Wednesday.

He told reporters that the rally will begin from the taluk office premises and will end at Azad Park Circle. Later, a public meeting will be held.

He said their main demand is to recognise anganwadi workers as government employees and provide a monthly remuneration of Rs 18,000 to Asha workers. These demands will also be placed before the Central government during a protest meet, he said.

“There are 40,000 Asha workers and 80,000 anganwadi workers in the state. In Pondicherry, anganwadi workers are considered as government employees. Asha workers in Goa and Maharastra are being paid a monthly remuneration of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, while in Karnataka, they are given a meagre Rs 5,000 per month," Lokesh pointed out.

Association members Victoria Rani, Gayatri, Meenakshi, Shivamma and Govindappa were present in the press meet.
