'Don't get lured while exercising franchise'

Last Updated 02 April 2018, 18:20 IST

ZP CEO Shivananda Kapasi has called upon people to exercise their franchise without getting lured by any incentives like money offered by individuals and political parties.

He was speaking at the SVEEP awareness programme at migrant labourers colony in Nittur on Sunday.

He said voters should not fall prey to any pressure from political parties or individuals. Instead, voters must exercise their franchise without any fear, he said.

He said that there is a need to conduct free and fair elections. The public can contact the toll-free number 1077 at the DC's office to complain about illegalities. If physically challenged persons inform the authorities on the helpline 0820–2548811 in advance, then arrangements will be made to take them to the polling station on the day of polling, he added.

Those who have not enrolled their names in the voter's list can do so now. All those who have attained 18 years age as on January 1 are eligible to enrol their names.

An awareness of the use of EVM/VVPAT was also held. Handbills were distributed to create awareness on the need for exercising the franchise.

Earlier, in a meeting, the CEO said that there is a need to create awareness on exercising franchise in those areas that had recorded low percentage of polling in the last election.

"Hoardings should be put up to create awareness. Further, Yakshagana, mime show and human chain will be formed to create awareness on exercising the franchise," he said.

DHO Dr Rohini said that awareness will be created during World Health Day.
