AAP, BJP spat escalates

Last Updated 18 April 2014, 20:33 IST

With Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign gaining momentum in Varanasi, the verbal clash between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also escalated. While the AAP has accused the former of directing its worker of disrupting Kejriwal’s campaign, the BJP termed it all as theatrics.

The AAP has said that the attacks are a reflection of the frustration in the Narendra Modi camp.

“The sudden spurt in the growing BJP attacks on the AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal at Varanasi is a clear reflection of the frustration in the Narendra Modi camp,” said an AAP statement on Friday.

“In less than 12 hours, BJP workers under the guidance from their state and national leadership, have twice attempted to disrupt Kejriwal’s campaign in Varanasi. In full public view, AAP leaders have been pushed, abused and shown obscene gestures by BJP workers,” alleged the statement.

“It is shocking that the BJP, which was claiming a Modi wave in Varanasi, stands exposed, since the people are witnessing cheap politics being practiced by BJP which is all about abuses, obscenity, stones, sticks and eggs,” it added.

“The BJP’s emphasis on trying to scare its political rival by using violent and cheap tactics is putting the basic principle of parliamentary democracy under threat,” it added.
