Four held for running fake admission racket

They are involved in facilitating admission to at least 35 students in Ramjas College through fake marksheets.

Sahil, a student of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Mukul of Ramjas College, Sanchit, a Ramjas College graduate and Rahul, owner of a cyber café, were arrested on Friday from north Delhi, said I B Rani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

“The arrested are intermediaries. Many more are believed to be involved in this racket,” Rani said.

The racket is suspected to be in operation for the past two years. Police believe that without the help of the college staff, the racket could not have operated successfully for such a long time.

Sahil, Mukul and Sanchit lured students who have scored less marks, promising them admission in Ramjas College. They would demand Rs two-six lakh for every admission.

After the admission seekers agreed, they were taken to higher authorities who were running the racket. Rahul, owner of a cyber cafe, would then fabricate fake marksheets of 90 per cent marks.

Most of the students who resorted to illegal means to get admissions were average students with around 70 per cent marks in their higher secondary examinations. “We are also investigating the role of the parents of these children. The money demanded by the admission racket is not a meagre amount. Action will be taken against parents if they are found guilty,” Rani said.
