BJP says dissidence not a threat

Last Updated 31 August 2018, 19:58 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party is facing an unpleasant situation as dissidents have contested as Independent candidates in different wards.

Speaking to reporters, MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty said that he is keen to get more seats in Kundapur TMC than the previous election. There is no threat due to the rebellion within the party. The election is based on the development works. Hence, the people will vote for BJP. The dissidence is not new and is part of the democratic setup, he added.

Rebel candidate Rajesh Kaveri said that he worked a lot for BJP. But the party leaders did not recognise his sacrifice. He said is hurt by the recent developments in the party.

Though the party sees him as an outsider, Rajesh considers himself as a BJP man since his entry into the politics. He added he decided to contest as an Independent candidate as he felt the need to remain with his identity.

He said he believes in the party ideologies and not in the worship of a person.

Former TMC president Mohandas Shenoy said that Kaveri dissidence will have very less impact as the party is all set to win at least 15-18 seats.
