Tata Power to develop 7GW renewable projects worth Rs 49,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop 7GW of renewable energy projects across the state.

The agreement, finalized on Friday, will involve an investment of approximately Rs 49,000 crore.

The planned developments include 4,200MW of solar projects and 2,800MW of wind projects across four districts: Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, and Prakasam. Additionally, TPREL plans to invest in rooftop solar installations and EV charging stations throughout the state.

For these ambitious projects, TPREL requires around 41,000 acres of land. The Andhra Pradesh government has committed to working closely with TPREL representatives to expedite land allocation and establish necessary power evacuation and connectivity infrastructure.

The economic benefits for the state are substantial, with projected revenue of Rs 3,000 crore in SGST on EPC. The initiative is also expected to create approximately 33,000 jobs across construction and EPC phases, as well as in upstream industries associated with renewable energy equipment production.

"This partnership aligns with the state's vision to enhance its renewable energy portfolio and accelerate the transition towards a sustainable and green energy future," said a senior Andhra Pradesh government official.

Another official while talking to DH noted that the groundwork for this collaboration was laid when Nara Lokesh visited Tata House in Mumbai last October, where he held detailed discussions with the Tata Group chairman and various Tata Group company CEOs.

Following these meetings, TCS announced plans for an IT center in Vizag, with these renewable energy investments now following.

The projects will be established under Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which aims to develop over 160GW of renewable energy with an investment potential of Rs 10 lakh crore.

By leveraging our expertise and cutting-edge technology, this partnership will drive large-scale renewable adoption and contribute to India's sustainability goals," said TPREL CEO and MD Deepesh Nanda.

As part of the agreement, TPREL will conduct preliminary assessments, feasibility studies, and development activities. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will provide support for facilitation, site identification, and evacuation infrastructure.

IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "This collaboration marks a deepening of the long-standing relationship between the state and the Tata group. We expect our landmark clean energy policy to generate investments of Rs 10 lakh crores and 7.5 lakh jobs for the people of AP," said Lokesh.
