LegalDesk in talks with banks to facilitate eSignatures

Last Updated 03 August 2016, 17:52 IST

Online legal documentation platform, LegalDesk.com, is in talks with few banks to facilitate eSign — an electronic signing feature based on Aadhaar. eSignDesk makes signing documents possible even in the physical absence of the parties involved.

“We have spoken to a couple of banks to facilitate eSign using our eSign portal eSignDesk.com. We are planning to provide this service to credit card division for one of the banks, which we will announce shortly,” LegalDesk.com Founder Krupesh Bhat told DH.

“Built on the Aadhaar platform, eSign is an initiative of the Indian government to allow citizens to remotely sign any document. All citizens who possess a registered mobile number associated with the Aadhaar card can make use of this facility,” Bhat added.

Bhat claimed that around seven billion signatures happen across India. We hope to eliminate fraction of manual signatures through eSignDesk.com.

The eSign service conforms to the Information Technology Act, 2000 and hence, such electronically signed documents shall be considered legally valid throughout the country.

With over one billion Aadhaar card holders in this country and about 25 million transactions happening per quarter, digital signatures are here to stay and are expected to save time, money and trees.

Former Chairman of UIDAI Nandan Nilekani said, “Digital signatures for everybody is an excellent initiative. This can make the entire documentation process paperless. It is great to see startups like LegalDesk adopting Aadhaar innovatively using eSign and the India Stack!”
