In a bid to utilise its human resources in the best possible way, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is planning to create an algorithm-based talent marketplace and an internal gig workers’ community, according to a report by Business Standard.

The company aims to create this "Talent Cloud" based on a comprehensive competency data foundation across the organisation. The cloud would help the company find specialists who can work on multiple assignments or gig projects.

According to the report, the Algo Talent Marketplace will be an automated, scaled, intelligent engine that will match and confirm associate capabilities and preferences with job needs. “We are currently running pilots to test some of the new work models like the gig workplace — crowdsourced timeboxed ‘stints’ for smaller tasks within TCS and flexi work,” Milind Lakkad, chief human resources officer (CHRO) said.

Meanwhile, the company is also betting on upgrading the skills of its employees through the Elevate programme, which links learning with career. “The idea is to enable employees to create a brand for themselves. This covers the entire career of an individual -- from entry-level to three years, we try and make them professionals; over four to nine years of services we try to make them specialists and over the next 10-20 years, we make them transformational leaders,” Lakkad said.
