<p>N S Vishwanathan, an Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed new Deputy Governor of the Central bank. He succeeds H R Khan, who is superannuating next week.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday cleared the appointment of Vishwanathan.<br /><br />This is the first appointment at the Deputy Governor level which has been cleared by the Cabinet. Until now, the job was done by RBI and its Governor.<br /><br />Vishwanathan was elevated as ED in 2014. His work involved overseeing banking and non-banking regulation departments. The notification on his appointment will come soon, sources said.<br /></p>
