Boy consumes poison after murder to try to kill self

A 16-year-old girl was hacked to death by her boyfriend in Doddaballapur on Wednesday morning. She was attacked on her way to school in Gangadharpura.

Soon after, the boyfriend consumed poison in an attempt to kill himself. He has been admitted to Victoria Hospital for treatment, the police said. The deceased girl was a resident of Rojipura in Gangadharpura, and was a class-10 student at a private school. She was also a relative of the accused, Naveen V.

Both families live in the same neighbourhood, the police said.

According to the police, the victim’s elder sister married Naveen’s younger brother over a year ago. Naveen and the victim were in love, but about three months ago she started to distance herself from Naveen.

Naveen soon learnt that the girl was interested in another man with whom she was in touch. Over the last couple of months, Naveen used to warn the girl not to go around with the other man, to which she started protesting.

On Wednesday morning, the girl was on her way to school when Naveen, armed with a machete, confronted her and blamed her for their soured relationship. This angered the girl who removed her slippers and started to beat Naveen. A furious Naveen hacked her to death on the road in Rojipura, and rushed to his home nearby to consume poison.

Neighbours and family members rushed the girl and Naveen to a private hospital where the girl was declared brought dead. Naveen, in a critical condition, was shifted to the Victoria Hospital. The Doddaballapura police have registered a case of murder, and are investigating further.
