Asphalting of Mysore Road flyover leads to traffic snarls

Last Updated 05 February 2014, 19:41 IST

With the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) asphalting the 600-metre stretch between Goods Shed Road and City Market of Mysore Road flyover, the particular loop has been closed for traffic, leading to huge snarls.

According to BBMP Engineer-in-Chief Rangaraju, the asphalting and milling work will be completed in eight days. The stretch from Briand Square to Mysore Road down ramp and Sirsi Circle to Goods Shed Road loop has already been asphalted.

Following traffic diversions, personnel from Upparpet, City Market and Chamarajpet traffic police stations were deployed at various junctions of the flyover, according to Chamarajpet traffic policeman Sridhar said.

“We began working at 6 am and by evening, traffic was streamlined,” he added. Sridhar further said that bumper-to-bumper traffic was seen on Mysore Road, Chamarajpet, Royan Circle and near the City  Jamia Masjid during morning peak hours. This angered the motorists.

According to Chamarajpet traffic police, buses plying between Mysore Road and K R Market cannot enter the flyover.

They need to take the service road below the flyover. But KSRTC and BMTC buses going towards Majestic can proceed on the flyover after taking a left turn at Briand Square Circle.
Conceding that motorists were not aware of traffic diversions and that initially they had a tough time managing the traffic, City Market traffic policeman Prakash said they would remain on duty until the BBMP completed the work.
