Petta, along with his associates, had attempted to murder another rowdy-sheeter Wale Manja in Bangalore last month, and was absconding since then. The Bangalore police were on the lookout for him and his gang.

On Tuesday night, Bangalore police received information that Petta and his associates were trying to escape from Bangalore in a car (KA 04-P 8191). A team of police officers led by Banashankari Police Station Inspector Govindaraj chased the car. They managed to intercept the car at Bhayatti in Hubli Taluk in the wee hours on Wednesday morning, but the gang escaped.

While crossing Heballi Agasi near Dharwad, Petta’s vehicle hit a flag post and the front tyre burst. However, the gang members escaped unhurt and tried to flee. The police rounded up Petta, but his associates managed to escape. Petta is wanted by Bangalore police in
connection with four murders, 10 cases of attempt to murder and also in extortion cases.
Petta’s attempt to kill Wale Manja had been recorded in a CCTV video recorder installed in front of Wale Manja’s house. Armed with the CCTV footage, police were in search of Petta.
