Boy, who had cataract surgery, now a painter

If someone were to explain colour to him a few years ago, he would not have understood.

But Harish began to see through the eyes donated to him and today, painting has given shape to his imagination. He demonstrated his artistic prowess in an awareness rally recently.

“I stopped going to school after class 10 since I lost sight due to a disease called Keratoconus. I underwent (cataract) transplant (surgery) at Narayana Nethralaya and am able to see now,” said Harish (17), a native of Kabballi.

Commemorating the 33rd National Eye Donation Fortnight, over 100 students from 12 schools in the city participated in poster making and puppet shows featured around eye donation. Four children who now see with transplanted corneas also joined the activities at Narayana Nethralaya.

Deviprasad R of NPS Yeshwantpur, Amrutha BE of Sri Rama Vidyalaya, and Manasvi G Baragur of NPS Rajajinagar won the first, second and third prizes in the poster-making contest — titled ‘Be a Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud’.
