Chitra Santhe art fair today

Bengaluru, DHNS: Splashes of colour and the splendour of art would hit Kumara Krupa Road on Sunday, as it hosts the 15th edition of Chitra Santhe, the annual art exhibition-sales event.

Organised by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, the fair removes art from the pedestal and ensconces it to the streets, where the common man can appreciate it without the air of pomposity. The public can also buy art works at an affordable rate from the 1,500 stalls, displaying a range of artistic works.

The exhibition will be open from 8 am to 8 pm. Kumara Krupa Road will be closed for traffic for the duration of the event.

The fair, which began in 2004, will be inaugurated by Prof C N R Rao at 10.30 am.

The fair will have 'Environmental Disaster and Climate Change' as its theme for this year.
Art collectors will have an opportunity to appraise works of more than 2,500 exponents of both professional and amateur variety.
Organisers expect more than four lakh visitors at this year's fair. Last year, the event had attracted more than 3.2 lakh visitors and sold 6,000 art works.
The exhibition hosts art in every possible medium from water colours to acrylic, to photographs and sculptures, all of which are in a different price range.
Body performance artist Gregory Jackson from Texas will conduct a show at the event, besides several folk dance and musical performances.
This year, the 'Chitrakala Samman' will be conferred on four noted artists - Sudha Manohar, Dr Tara Kashyap from Bengaluru, S Shiv Munoli from Kalaburagi and Somanna Chitrakar from Davangere. The awardees would get Rs 25,000 in cash and a citation.
