RailTel, the telecom arm of the Indian Railways, may soon provide Wi-Fi services to commuters at the Bangalore City Railway Station. The service will be free of cost for some time.

Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced this as part of the recent railway budget for all A1 and A category railway stations. The City Railway Station will be the first in the State to get the facility.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Shanthi Ram, General Manager, RailTel, said: “ We are working out the modalities of the project and will finalise the details soon. The entire station will be Wi-Fi enabled and after keying in the password, commuters will be able to utilise the facility.”

If one goes by the budget, looks like the Railways will witness a complete makeover, beginning from food to comfort. As per a recent decision, commuters will be able to enjoy a host of delicacies on-board premium and luxury trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto. Also, commuters in the SWR division may soon be able to order their own choice of food .“

We are waiting for the letter from the Railway Board about this and as soon as we get some clarity, the same will be implemented in the trains as mentioned,” said Divisional Railway Manager Anil K Aggarwal.
