The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike council on Wednesday passed a resolution to extend the deadline to avail 5% concession on property tax till May 31.

The decision was taken following complaints about technical glitch in the BBMP’s tax collection portal. Corporators echoed the problems faced by the citizens to pay their property tax. Raising the issue in the council, ruling Congress leader Mohammad Rizwan Nawab said the property tax collection has hit badly owing to numerous technical problems.

“The bank officials where property taxes are collected and the BBMP’s revenue officials have added to the confusion,” he charged.

Basavanagudi corporator B S Sathyanarayana sought to know why the BBMP was not resolving the problem by explaining to the software engineers of National Informatics Centre.

The floor leader of the opposition BJP Padmanabha Reddy cited many examples where payable tax this year is more than last year in many cases.

Sathyanarayana urged Mayor G Padmavathi to pass a resolution to extend the deadline for availing the 5% concession on property tax till May 31. Later the council unanimously passed the resolution.
