A retired sub-inspector who worked in the commissionerate was arrested for sexually assaulting his 17-year old adopted daughter for the past three years.

The suspect, Anand Kumar (63) a resident of Weavers Colony in Nelamangala Town, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A senior police officer said Kumar had adopted the victim after his daughter died a few years ago.

After the victim turned 13 years, Kumar started sexually abusing her.

The former cop used to threaten the girl, saying that he would kick her out of the house if she reveals this to any of the family members or outsiders.

The girl got scared and did not reveal. Taking advantage of this, Kumar sexual abused her for nearly three years.

Unable to bear the harassment, the victim left the house and was sleeping in a bus stop. Some locals who saw her informed an NGO and handed her over to them. During a detailed counselling session, she narrated her ordeal.

The NGO then approached the Nelamangala police station on December 18 and filed a complaint against Kumar, who was later arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The victim stated in her complaint that Kumar was forcing his wife and grandchildren to visit a temple, and after they left home, he used to sexually abuse her. The victim even spoke about her ordeal to Kumar’s wife Shobha, but she ignored it.
