Health cards for contract sanitation workers

Last Updated 01 February 2019, 20:44 IST

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara announced that pourakarmikas working on contract basis with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike will soon be given health cards.

After interacting with the representatives of several organisations for contract pourakarmikas on Friday, Parameshwara said the government would consider several of their demands, including providing health cards.

Health cards provided to permanent pourakarmikas entitle them for medical treatment up to Rs 2 lakh per family per year. “The health of the sanitary workers is very important, hence I have directed the officials to take necessary action to issue the health cards,” the Deputy chief minister said.

“The association members have also complained about various issues faced by the contract pourakarmikas. I’ll check with the officials and the issues will be solved soon,” he added.

Other issues

Members of the contract pourakarmikas association complained about the denial of public holidays and maternity leaves, besides urging the government to regularise 200 sanitary workers.
