HC to CS: Hold weekly civic committee meets

The Karnataka High Court directed the Chief Secretary (CS) T M Vijay Bhaskar to hold weekly meetings of the coordination committee constituted to oversee civic works beginning on Wednesday.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the poor maintenance of stormwater drains in the city.

The court appointed senior counsel Aditya Sondhi as an independent member in the coordination committee headed by the CS.

Chief Secretary Vijay Bhaskar was present before the court on Tuesday following the court’s orders to assist the court to decide on matters related to civic issues.

The court stated that Sondhi, as an independent member, would lend his suggestions and inputs to the coordination committee; and enable the CS to look at civic issues from a different perspective.

The court asked the CS to provide the minutes of all meetings of the coordination committee. The court adjourned the case.
