JOIN USThe initiative was announced at an interactive session with KSPCB Chairman A S Sadashiva and BBMP Special Commissioner K R Niranjan, where members of the association tried to persuade the officials to implement a blanket ban on plastic.
The association has planned to reach out to all residents in their and nearby wards about the hazards involved in the use of plastic. Apart from an awareness campaign, the organisation has also started a collective effort in identifying a list of shop owners who violate the ban and sell plastic carry bags below 40 microns.
Appreciating the efforts taken by the RWA, Sadashiva said the easiest way to root out the problem of dry and plastic waste is to set up centres in each of the apartment complexes to dispose it.
“I will call for a meeting in the next few days with as many apartment associations in this regard,” he said.
Meanwhile, adhering to the pleas by the KUCWA on involving a citizen representative in the State Advisory Committee on the ban on plastic, as suggested in the Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011, Sadshiva said he would discuss the matter with the government on the increasing participation of the public.
