Marshals keep an eye on those dumping waste into drains

The BBMP has deputed marshals to catch those dumping garbage in stormwater drains.

The Palike officials along with marshals began the drive on Tuesday night at Yelahanka and Kanakapura areas.

The officials have seized 15 vehicles in Yelahanka and Kanakapura areas on Tuesday, for dumping garbage into the drains and have collected Rs 19,000 fine from the offenders.

Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner, health and solid waste management, BBMP said: “We have been receiving a lot of complaints of some bulk generators dumping waste in SWDs at night. This mostly includes animal waste that clogs the SWD. There were some motorists and auto tippers bringing garbage in the night. We have caught them. We will continue this drive vigorously and extend to all zones.”

Captain Rajbir Singh, who is leading marshals said: “We have been surveilling the place during the morning and catch them in the night. We have been trying to catch the offenders opposite Reva College in Yelahanka, where a huge pile of garbage has been formed.”

The officials continued the drive at Yelahanka zone on Friday night.

The Palike intends to continue the drive across the city.
