Promotion norms: VTU students intensify strike

Last Updated 10 October 2018, 19:31 IST

The students of Vishveshwaraya Technological University (VTU) and its affiliated colleges have intensified the strike demanding more relaxation in the promotion norms.

The students have planned two days of protest against the VTU, where they will stage a sit-in overnight.

“We are staging an overnight sit-in to grab the attention of the government authorities. It’s for the benefit of nearly 50,000 students. Why can’t they change the norms for the sake of students? At least one-time examination, supplementary or further relaxation in the promotion norms would make a big difference for thousands of students,” a student from JSS Engineering college, who requested anonymity, told DH.

Recently, the VTU had relaxed the norms for the final year admission. However, the students say the move benefited only five thousand students. According to the old system, the students were eligible for admission to final year only if they clear all the subjects in the first and second year.

Clearing the VTU stand, Jagannath Reddy, Registrar, VTU, said: “We have given the maximum relaxation for the students. It's not possible for us to do anything now. The call is taken by the executive council of VTU.”
