Mauled by a pack of eight to 10 stray dogs two days ago, the condition of 11-year-old Praveen remains critical.

He is currently being treated at the Manipal Hospital where doctors have been performing complex surgeries to save the boy.

Dr Anoop Amarnath, chief of clinical services at the hospital, said, "The child has sustained severe injuries on his face, neck, scalp and arms, and is being treated by an expert team of doctors.

"He remains very critical. He is on life support system with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)."

The ECMO assists cardiac and respiratory functions in patients. Sources in the hospital also revealed that paediatric surgeons had to perform some complex surgeries on the boy.

Meanwhile, three officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have been arrested by HAL police in connection with the case.

Dr Shriram, assistant director, Arun Muthalik Desai, senior veterinary doctor, both from the Animal Husbandry division of Mahadevapura zone, and Dr Ravishankar, the contractor, have been arrested on charges of negligence.

The three have been booked under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.

Praveen was attacked by stray dogs near Vibhutipura at KR Puram while he was playing with his elder brother at a lake bank near his house. He is a Class VI student of a government school near Ramesh Nagar in HAL.
