A speeding car brushed against an MUV, jumped the median strip and toppled on the other side of the road before colliding with another four-wheeler.

The pile-up on the Kodigehalli flyover on Ballari Road in northern Bengaluru around 1.45 pm on Tuesday left a 20-year-old engineering student dead. Traffic on the airport road was disrupted for quite some time.

The pile-up

Sachin, a resident of Kempapura, was driving a Maruti Alto on his way back from college which is located near the airport. The car brushed against a Toyota Innova moving in the same direction. Sachin’s hatchback hit the median strip before toppling on the other side of the road. It then collided with a Tata Indica moving in the opposite direction. As the accident occurred on both sides of the roads, traffic came to a grinding halt.

The Hebbal traffic police rushed to the spot and rushed Sachin and two others to a hospital.

While Sachin was declared brought dead around 2.30 pm, the two injured — Afsar (35), a cab driver, and Lakshmi Varadharajan (60), a cab rider — are being treated.

The traffic on the flyover was diverted through the service roads under it. It took around half an hour for the police to tow away the vehicles involved in the accident.
