Paramahamsa Yogananda’s 125th birth anniversary

Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) will celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda, the author of the spiritual classic ‘The Autobiography of a Yogi’ and the founder of the Kriya Yoga system of meditation.

The programme is part of the activities planned the Union government to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda across India.

In this connection, a talk entitled “Kriya Yoga Meditation – A definite way for Healthy, Happy and Successful life” will be given on Saturday, December 15 at HAL Convention Centre, HAL GB Quarters, Old Airport Road, Marathahalli from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm and on Sunday, December 16 at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 43, Race Course Road from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, by Swami Smaranananda Giri, a senior monastic and member of board of directors Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.

At the end of the free public talk, those interested will get an opportunity to learn a specific technique of meditation from Swamiji. All are welcome.

Swami Smaranananda Giri, is a post-doctoral fellow, from Concordia University, Montreal Canada. He obtained his Ph.D in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1980.

For the last 100 years, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS), has been dedicated to carrying on the spiritual and humanitarian work of its founder-guru.

YSDK Bengaluru was officially consecrated in 1993 and there are 4,000 YSS devotees in the city, which has eight mandalis or sub-centres.

Paramahansa Yogananda’s Kriya Yoga teachings took roots in Bengaluru in 1935, when he was a guest of the state of Mysore at the invitation of Maharaja’s heir the Yuvaraja Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar. During October-November 1935, Swami Yogananda addressed three mass meetings in Bengaluru, at National High School grounds, Intermediate College, and at Puttanna Chetty Town Hall.
