The BBMP has created a garbage blackspot in front of swanky stores on Tumakuru Road, near 8th Mile, T Dasarahalli.

Piles of solid waste lay in every corner of Namma Metro pillars along the road, residents complain. They find it difficult to walk on the stretch as a foul smell emanates from garbage vehicles that arrive to load or unload the trash.

Sangeetha Murthy, a resident of Dasarahalli, said: “For the past year, the civic authorities have made this place a mess. The area also sees an increase in street dogs, making it difficult for us to take this stretch.”

Sometimes, the trash spills onto the road.

“It is very difficult to ride on this stretch as plastic covers come flying and stick on to our vehicles,” complained T A Thomas, a motorist.

The stretch from 8th Mile to the T Dasarahalli metro station has a lot of swanky stores and hotels. The owners and managers of these commercial establishments have also complained about the blackspots.

A hotel manager said: “Due to blackspots,  customers avoid our hotel. We have complained to the BBMP, but to no avail. We have been running into losses for the past year. The management is planning to shift out.”

The manager of another store said: “Garbage is cleaned only once in two days. Garbage autos collect the waste from residential areas and dump it here daily. It is only after two days that the truck comes and collects the garbage.”

According to BBMP officials, there is a lack of availability of land to dump the garbage. "We are planning to find a proper place to dump the garbage. There is a lack of land. But we clean this place after the truck takes away the garbage.”
