A six-year-old boy riding pillion on a scooter died after a cement truck ran him over in southern Bengaluru on Sunday. Minutes later, furious local residents beat the truck driver to death. Six people have been arrested for the lynching.

Arhaan Khan, the only child of Yusuf Khan, a software engineer, and Reshma Khan was riding with his relative Sadaf Bukhari on a Honda Activa on a narrow road at Ananth Nagar, Hebbagodi, around 4.30 pm. Bukhari tried overtaking the truck but the driver of a stationary car suddenly opened the door. Both Bukhari and Arhaan fell down. The truck, moving just behind, ran Arhaan over.

Residents caught the truck driver, Radhe Shyam, a resident of Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, and beat him black and blue. Passersby rushed him to hospital but he died two hours later.

Police later arrested six people for the lynching on the basis of the CCTV footage. The suspects — Rakesha, 29, his wife Eshwari, 30, V Anand Kumar, 20, Prakash B K, 19, Pramod Kumar, 19, and Ravi L N, 40, — have been remanded in judicial custody.

After the post-mortem on Monday, Arhaan's body was taken to Hubballi where the funeral was held the same day.
