A daily wage labourer was killed in a mud collapse while laying a sanitary pipeline of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board at Shivanna Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Wednesday.

Madivalappa Gowda (26) alias Muttu from Jevargi taluk died on the spot while his coworker, Sharana Gowda (35) escaped with minor injuries.

Four labourers were working when the mud caved in around 3.30 pm. Three of them managed to escape. But Madivalappa was stuck deep inside the mud.

A passerby rushed to their rescue and alerted the fire and emergency services.

KBR construction, a private company, has been given the contract to lay the pipeline and it started the work a month ago at the Padmavathi Marriage Hall.

Madivalappa had come to the city two years ago and was living at Mutturayana Nagar in a rented house with his wife Nagamma and three-year-old son.

RR Nagar police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.
