Construction of model houses to begin today

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will symbolically launch the work on the construction of model houses for flood victims in the city on Friday.

The chief minister will land at the special helipad at the football grounds of Chennamma PU College in Garaganduru at 10.45 am. He will break the ground for the construction of houses at Jambur village in Somwarpet taluk at 12.15 pm.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, Urban Development and Housing Minister U T Khader, District In-charge minister Sa Ra Mahesh, members of Legislative Assembly M P Appacchu Ranjan, K G Bopaiah, M P Sunil Subramani, MLC Veena Acchaiah, M P Pratap Simha and Zilla Panchayat President B A Harish are expected to attend the programe.

The site earmarked for each house measures 30x40 feet. Sites have been marked at K Nidugani, Karnangeri, Galibeedu, Sampje, Biligeri, Jamburu and Kushalnagar. A total of 110 acres have been earmarked for the purpose of rehabilitation.

The district administration has come up with plans to construct sites of the choice of the flood victims. There is a requirement of 524 houses in Madikeri taluk, 205 houses in Madikeri CMC limits, 88 houses in Somwarpet taluk and 23 houses in Kushalnagar Town Panchayat
limits.

A proposal towards the development of a residential layout and basic facilities at a cost of Rs 31.63 crore has also been approved by the government, an official said.
