Mayor of Delhi Prithvi Raj Sawhney said an equal number of substitute sanitation workers has been engaged as replacement for the regular employees to ensure that areas other than the venues do not face cleanliness problems.

He said MCD has rounded up 270 stray dogs during the last five days. They have been shifted to its veterinary centres at Gazipur where they are being looked after by Friendicos, an NGO engaged in the MCD's animal birth control programme.
The Mayor said the sanitation position is being regularly monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of the zone concerned where the venue falls. "They have been directed to deploy sanitation workers as per actual requirement. If needed, more workers will be deployed," he said.

Sawhney said MCD has already deployed 1,100 sanitation workers as replacement to the regular workers deputed at the Games venues and it will be ensured that both the venues as well as the city areas are kept clean.

He said that "both are being given equal priority and city areas are not being neglected".
The Mayor informed that nine teams have been constituted under leadership of Additional Commissioners for the Games venues like Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Thyagraj Sports Complex Karni Singh Shooting Range, R K Khanna Tennis Stadium, Siri Fort Complex, Indira Gandhi Stadium, Delhi University Stadium, and Yamuna Sports Complex.
Brig (retd) Rajinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner (Shahdara South) is the team leader for the Commonwealth Games Village.

"The Cabinet Secretary after looking at the work of MCD has entrusted the job of cleaning and sanitation of all venues falling in MCD's jurisdiction to it," Sawhney said.
The civic bodies were earlier supposed to only assist three private companies which were given the job of sanitation at 11 venues by the CWG Organising Committee. However, now the MCD and NDMC have been asked to take up the job in venues in their respective areas and the private firms will provide necessary assistance, officials said.
After complaints about cleanliness in the Games Village, more than 1000 MCD and NDMC workers were deployed there a few days back to make it spic and span.
