Durga Pooja from October 13

Informing the same in a press meet here on Thursday, Committee President Arun Kumar Kanrar said the programme will be inaugurated by MRPL Managing Director Uttam Kumar Basu on October 13 at 7.30 pm.

Corporation Bank Executive Director Asit Pal and Shiv Kumar Sharma will be the chief guests. The inauguration will be followed by a Bengali Dance Drama ‘Agomoni’.  

On October 14, the Mahasapthami Pooja will be performed in the morning and Bengali cultural programmes will be held in the evening. To mark the 150th birth centenary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, young artist will perform ‘Amol o Dahiwala’ based on ‘Dakghar’ written by Tagore. Another drama called ‘Chena Ajana’ will be staged, informed Kanrar.

Sandhi Pooja will be performed on the occasion of Mahastami on October 15.
The auspicious pooja performed during the junction period of ‘astami’ and ‘navami’ will be marked by offering 108 numbers of white lotuses to the godess.

Dhunichi Nach, a traditional culture followed during pooja will be the key attraction. Competitions like conch blowing, ‘Ulludhoni’ and Bengali quiz will also be held on this occasion.

On October 16 at 4 pm at the pooja venue, drawing competition will be held for children of different age groups.

Children between 5 to 7 can draw anything of their choice with pencil and sketch pen. Children between 8 and 11 years should draw on topic ‘Nature and Villages’ and ‘Today’s energy wastage is tomorrow’s energy shortage’ is the topic for drawing comeptition for age groups between 12-15.

On October 17, on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the idol will tour around the city and immersed in the Gurpura River at Sultan Battery marking the end of the festival, Kanrar added.
