Gandhi Bazaar, the most sought-after shopping destination of the South Bangaloreans, is all set to attract the customers once again.

Basavanagudi Shopping Festival, a month-long festive fair is on to make the festive season more enjoyable and memorable.

With luring offers for the shoppers, the festival is on till November 7.

A group, consisting of nearly 200 business establishments, under Basavanagudi Merchant Forum has come out with the scheme of Happy Street Mall to attract shoppers to DVG Road and Gandhi Bazaar by offering discounts and gifts. 

Ramaprasad A R, the general secretary is hopeful about the success of the shopping festival.

“Our aim is to bring back the glory of Basavanagudi like before. During 70s, it was one among the three shopping destinations of Bangaloreans. As people do more shopping on the occasion of Dasara and Deepavali, we decided to encourage them with varied offers,” he says.

The shoppers will get a different experience when they walk on the streets of DVG Road as the whole stretch of two kilometres is illuminated with colourful lightings in the evenings.

In order to amuse the shoppers, there will be performances by local artistes on weekends.

For every purchase of more than Rs 500, the customers will get gift vouchers.
There will be lucky dip on the concluding day to announce the winners and the first three winners will get diamond items and the winner of a bumper prize can bring home a Chevorlet Beat car.

Ramaprasad assures that the prices of all the items will be lesser than other places. Each shop is offering a great variety in garments, gift articles, sandals, handbags, electronic goods etc.

Nagaraj, the owner of Lakshmi Silks, feels proud to be a part of Basavanagudi Shopping Festival.

 “We have been offering 20 per cent discount on any purchase. We have witnessed a brisk business and ladies are very enthusiastic about buying silk saris,” he informs.

For Sharmila, a regular shopper, Gandhi Bazaar has been a favourite shopping
destination from many years.

“As I am regular to these shops, I know where I can get the best things. It feels good to shop here as each shop has some kind of offers. The experience is different when you shop in the evening when the whole stretch of road is illuminated,” she exclaims.

Suneetha, a teacher says, “It has been a tradition in our family to purchase new dresses for all the family members on the occasion of Dasara. Therefore, we will definitely benefit with such offers. With these discounts, we can buy high-priced garments at reasonable prices,” she opines.
