Last Updated 14 October 2010, 16:26 IST

The crowd was left stunned as Nadal, dropping serve twice in the first set amid a series of unforced errors, crashed in one of his biggest defeats.

World number two Djokovic reached the last eight with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over France's Richard Gasquet, while Murray secured his place at the ATP season-ender in London next month with a routine 6-3, 6-4 win over another Frenchman, Jeremy Chardy.

The fourth seed will next meet France's Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, who celebrated wildly after beating German Florian Mayer 7-5, 6-3.   Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez also advanced after beating seventh seed Czech Tomas Berdych 7-6, 6-3.

Easy for Indians
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have advanced to the second round of the Shanghai Masters with their respective partners after getting a first-round bye.

Paes and his new partner Jurgen Melzer will take on Brazil’s Thomaz Belluci and Serbia’s Janko Tipsaveric in the quarterfinals while Bhupathi and his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi will take on the winners of the first round match between the pairs of Florian Mayer/ Yen-Hsun Lu and Marc Lopez/ Tommy Robredo.

Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-haq- Qureshi also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Mark Knowles and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
