Dattamala Abhiyana from December 18

Addressing reporters, VHP District Working President M B Sudheer said that about 25,000 devotees are expected to participate in the Abhiyana, which will conclude with the Datta Jayanti celebrations on December 20. State-level meets have already been convened at various places. A meet will be organised in Mangalore to discuss about the Dattamala Abhiyana celebration in November, he added.

“Though the ceiling of the Datta caves was damaged three years ago, the government is not showing any interest to repair it. The government is testing the patience of the Hindu religious majority,” Sudheer said.

The entire peeta premises has been covered with weeds, he said adding that the government should take initiative to clean the Peeta surroundings before October 25, or else, “we will have to organise Hindu community members and clean the premises through a ‘Karseva’ without harming the sanctity of the place,” he warned.

The government should take up repair works inside the Datta cave and allow people to have ‘darshana’ of Sri Dattatreya ‘Paduke,’ Sudheer demanded. “Repair the ceiling immediately, shift the tombs from the premises and appoint Hindu priests,” he urged and added that the Sangha Parivar is firm on the above demands.

“No matter which party rules the State, we will continue the fight until our demands are met. We will not be yielding to pressure of any sort and there is no question of compromise,” he asserted.

Bajrang Dal District Convener Gutti Sudev and VHP Taluk Secretary Yogishraj Urs spoke.
