The value of electronic components is expected to account for 40 per cent of the total cost of high-end cars by 2015, up from 20 per cent in 2004, he said. Software accounted for the 30 per cent of value in automobile electronics.
Giving an idea of the extent of software work in automobiles, he said, 2 million lines of software were involved in making a simple engine control work. Industry bodies in many countries are trying to standardise basic software used in automobiles to provide more opportunities to pure players.
