Girl's fingers chopped by friend's fiance

The youth, with the help of three others, dragged 17-year-old Ranjana out of an autorickshaw she was travelling in and thrashed her before cutting off her three fingers near Intaunja area, about 35 kilometres from here on Tuesday, police said.

Ranjana was returning after attending her classes, when the incident occurred, police said. According to the police, Ranjana, a resident of Prthvipur village, knew the youth identified as Kailash alias Painter, whose marriage had been fixed with a girl of Ranjana’s village a few days ago. As Ranjana knew that Kailash did not bear a good moral character, she advised the girl against marrying him. “Kailash was a drunkard and a vagabond,” the police said.

“The girl was a friend of mine and I could not have let her marry a person like Kailash and therefore I advised her not to go ahead with the marriage,” Ranjana said.

The family of the girl reportedly cancelled the marriage following Ranjana’s advice, which irked Kailash and he decided to take revenge, police said.

On Tuesday, Kailash with three others boarded the same auto rickshaw in which Ranjana was travelling. Police suspect that the driver of the auto rickshaw was also involved in the matter.

As the auto crossed the Intauja market, the youths asked the driver to stop and then dragged the unsuspecting girl out. She was thrashed on the busy national highway and then three fingers of her right hand were chopped off with a sharp-edged weapon.
They later fled from the spot leaving a profusely bleeding Ranjana on the road, police said adding some passersby later took her to the primary health centre.
A case has been registered against Kailash and the other youths and a hunt has been launched to nab them.
