Yallayya (70), his daughter Jayalakshmi (32), Suresh (39), Gururaj (45) and the car driver, Shankar (25), were the dead.
The family originally belonged to Siruguppa and had settled in Mysore eight years ago.
They had left Mysore around midnight and were on their way to Siruguppa when their car and a Bangalore-bound private bus from Bidar collided on the outskirts of the town.
The police force headed by DySP Hanumantharaya and Circle Police Inspector Vasudev, Sub-inspector Sangamesh Palabhavi, D M Nishchal Kumar and Ananda Murthy struggled to extricate the bodies from the wreckage. A case has been registered at the Challakere Police Station.
