That’s what pushed media students of Christ University to take up a theme like ‘Cinema’ for their annual media fest, Moving Frames.

Organised by the Department of Media Studies, the two-day fest witnessed 15 colleges from all over the country taking part.  Challenging one both creatively and theoretically, the fest had events like Cinergy (Paper Presentations), Hyde Park (Debate), Cineque (Film Analysis), Focus… Shoot! (Film screening), FilMania (Film trivia), Docum1nutE (One minute documentary), 36 f - stop (Photography), Poster Struck (Poster making).

“Paper presentation required one to have a deeper knowledge and research into the cinema. Sitting as members of the audience helped us realise that there is so much to learn from cinema,” said Vidya, one of the students.

The most popular event however was 36 f-stop, the photography event, with registrations going off the charts. The event required the participants to capture images on their cameras in sync with a theme like Motion. Majority of students went around the campus trying to capture many things, the favourite place however was the birds park where students wanted to get a shot of the flying birds.

For students from other colleges, the real challenge was Docum1nutE, the one-minute documentary event. “With a theme like Christ University, it will be difficult to capture the spirit of it in just one minute. Especially since we are new to the college. But we are hoping for the best,” said Avinash, who had come from Pune.

Apart from the fests, Moving Frames also had workshops focussing on different aspects of movie-making. Jithena, who was the co-ordinator for the workshops, said that the most number of registrations were for direction and editing.

“There is so much one gets to learn from them and many found the workshops an opportunity to  practice what they learn in classrooms,” she added.

The highlight of the two-day fest however was the panel discussion on the changing trends of cinema where personalities like M Balasubramanyan from AVM Studios and  S P Balasubramaniam, the playback singer. Laxmi Chandrashekar, the Film, TV and Theatre artiste; M Bhaktavatsala, former president of the Film Federation of India; Sneha Iype Varma and Prakash Varma from Nirvana Films, were present.
